WBNS 10TV, the TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate in Columbus, is seeking a dynamic, passionate and visionary News Director who has experience leading teams, developing talent and navigating change. This role combines editorial leadership, strategic planning, and team development. You'll influence everything from daily editorial decisions to our long-term approach to multi-platform news delivery, including 10+. We need a forward-thinking leader who is focused on the audience experience and relentless daily execution of our brand, ensuring WBNS is relevant and valuable to audiences, however they choose to consume news. What You'll Do: Guide and inspire a content team focused on high-impact journalism, breaking news, and investigations that drive change Ensure the entire content team works together seamlessly to excel at breaking news and identify opportunities to strengthen our streaming presence Lead content planning from daily coverage decisions to strategic initiatives, drawing on research and analytics to achieve growth objectives Recruit and hire top talent for all positions in the newsroom Lead content quality reviews and provide regular feedback that strengthens storytelling, audience relevance and daily execution of the brand. Promote strong collaboration across departments Cultivate an inclusive newsroom culture that develops high-capacity teams through accountability, creative problem-solving, and collective success Follow developments in AI, streaming, and emerging technologyand push our newsroom to be early adopters who set the standard What You'll Bring: 7+ years in content leadership roles, with a track record of growing audience and impact Proven success managing complex teams and projects across all platforms, including digital, broadcast and social Experience leading newsrooms through change and transformation Stellar editorial judgment and deep understanding of ethical journalism principles Confidence navigating digital production tools, AI tools, social platforms and real-time analytics Outstanding communication skills and the ability to coach, develop and inspire top talent A passion for local journalism and a love for serving diverse communities Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent professional experience in news leadership Why This Role Matters: At TEGNA, we help people thrive in their local communities by delivering the trusted news and services that matter most. TEGNA offers two medical plan options for full and part-time employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, as well as access to dental and eye care coverage; fertility, surrogacy and adoption assistance; disability and life insurance. Our 401(k) program offers full, part-time and temporary employees the opportunity to contribute 1% - 80% of their pay on a pre-tax basis to TEGNA's 401(k). Contributions made up to the first 4% of pay are eligible for a 100% match from the company and are 100% vested from day one.
