Reporting to the Director of Technical Operations, the Broadcast Technician is responsible for maintaining Vista Radio’s cluster of stations across our Ontario markets, ensuring reliable broadcast operations and supporting all technical processes related to transmission, studio systems, and content delivery.
This is a permanent, full-time position based in Huntsville, Ontario . Interested candidates must be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance will be provided.
About the Role
The Broadcast Technician plays a critical role in keeping our stations on-air and operating at peak performance. This position supports transmitter sites, studio environments, automation systems, and network infrastructure, while ensuring compliance, uptime, and operational excellence across the cluster.
Responsibilities
- Installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of FM/AM broadcast transmitter systems
- Diagnose RF and transmission system issues using strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; assess equipment health onsite and remotely, determine repair options, dismantle components for off-site repair, and complete replacements and installations as required
- Installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of radio studio equipment including computers, AXIA IP audio consoles, nodes, processors, analog consoles, mixers, microphones, amplifiers, speakers, and STL systems
- Troubleshoot mixed digital and analog broadcast environments
- Installation, maintenance, and ongoing troubleshooting of broadcast computers and hardware supporting ENCO Radio automation systems, servers, regulatory audio loggers, IP online streams, and audio distribution systems
- Maintain building infrastructure, documentation, and inspection reports; identify current or potential issues and implement preventative maintenance measures to improve uptime
- Proactively monitor critical equipment and make necessary adjustments to ensure broadcast continuity and content delivery
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair radio automation systems and related networks, routers, switches, and wireless access points
- Provide remote and hands-on technical support to station staff, including support for remote broadcasts
- Liaise with management to address facility issues including HVAC, power outages, generators, internet and phone outages, working toward timely restoration
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical records and generate reports with findings and recommendations; liaise with community contractors to obtain project costing aligned with departmental budgets
- Travel to transmitter sites throughout the province for maintenance, testing, and site upkeep, including vegetation removal near towers and building entrances
- Participate in after-hours and on-call rotations as required; respond to emergency and off-air situations. Travel may be required
Qualifications
- Minimum three (3) years of recent and direct radio engineering experience in a Broadcast Technician role
- Graduate of an electronics technician or technologist program preferred
- Strong technical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills
- Self-motivated, reliable, and safety-conscious
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to prioritize effectively in response to changing needs or critical off-air emergencies
- Demonstrated interest in staying current with industry trends and technical standards
- Positive attitude with a strong customer service mindset

- Ability and willingness to work in all climates
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
Working Conditions
- Permanent, full-time position based in Huntsville, Ontario
- Relocation required for candidates not currently residing in the area; relocation assistance will be provided
- After-hours and on-call work required
- Travel within Ontario required
