Evening Anchor

KVIA-TV is the dominant #1 station in the El Paso, Texas/Las Cruces, New Mexico market. We are owned by News-Press & Gazette a family-run company that owns stations and other media outlets throughout the West and Midwest. El Paso is a dynamic city, in the heart of the mountainous desert southwest. Its located where Texas, New Mexico and Juarez, Mexico meet. Its called the Sun City with more than 300 days of sunshine a year.

The main anchor will review and present newscasts to viewers, produce & write special reports, represent station and community events, and produce if needed. KVIA-TV in El Paso/Las Cruces is a legacy station we are looking for a newsroom leader, excellent communicator and a journalist who develops contacts and breaks stories.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Anchor evening newscasts (5pm, 6pm & 10pm)
• Write and copy edit newscast scripts
• Write and deliver news teases
• Write and record radio updates for local radio station
• Keep abreast of current local, national, and international news
• Coach producers, reporters in storytelling, showcasing, balance, and ethics
• Research, write and present special reports
• Offer well-researched story ideas during editorial meetings
• Keep in touch with the community and the type of stories that are helpful to viewers
• Represent the station at public events and meetings
• Write, produce & edit packages and special reports
• Produce newscasts if needed
• Other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications:

• Solid written and verbal communications skills
• Good presentation skills
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
• 5 years experience as an anchor & reporter
• Job is contingent upon successful completion of a drug test and background check
