They supervise students, recruit student helpers and parent volunteers. The Media Tech provides an effective operation and maintenance of the circulation desk. They maintain and distribute an up to date list of overdue materials and retrieve such material from the patrons. The Media Tech organizes building book fairs that support the library media center. They coordinate library skills instruction with the curriculum. Position Type: Secretarial/Clerical/Elementary Media Tech Class IIB Lane 2A Location: Oxbow Elementary Salary: HVESP Contract $18.09 - $21.95 Reports To: Principal School Year: 2026-2027; 27 hrs/week Start Date: Last week of August 2026; exact date TBD Work Year: School Year Plus 1 Week Date Posted: 4/29/2026 Closing Date: 5/5/2026 External Date: until filled MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS An Associate Degree in Library Science or Library Technical Assistance or equivalent course work Knowledge of elementary school student's literature Knowledge of electronic catalog/circulation systems Knowledge of educational technology equipment as well as operation and maintenance of all audio-visual equipment Must be able to type accurately, file materials and have a competent use of the English language Must have knowledge of Dewey Decimal System and experience monitoring a large media collection Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with principals, supervisors, teachers, students, parents, and responsible school and civic officials Must have the ability to assist in training and supervision of library/media aides, students and parents Must have evidence of continuing professional development and remain current with best practices Must have knowledge of and ability to foster a 21st century learning environment conducive to student collaboration Demonstrated ability to interact positively with elementary/secondary students Knowledge to support technology equipment in all facets of school operation Demonstrated knowledge regarding information literacy, navigating the internet and other non-print media sources Must have ability to assist in professional development with all staff ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assume responsibility for the effective operation of the library/media center under the direction of the building principal. This would include day-to-day operation, coordination of classroom schedules and maintaining a neat and orderly center Supervise students, library/media aides, student helpers, and parent volunteers Provide for an effective operation and maintenance of all aspects of the circulation desk such as incoming and outgoing books, magazines, audio-visual equipment and materials, as well as the computer catalog/circulation system Maintain and distribute an up-to-date list of overdue materials and retrieve such material from the patrons Shelve books and audio-visual materials in proper order, and maintain a neat and well-organized library/media center Maintain an online catalog by importing new acquisitions and deleting Model the value of reading through book talks, reading contest, and assist staff and students with the selection of appropriate reading material Prepare in conjunction with the principal, staff and student's suggestions for books, magazines and audio-visual materials to be ordered by the library media specialist Organize building book fairs that support the library media center Coordinate library skills instruction with the curriculum EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associates Degree or higher preferred LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS: Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
