North CountryPublic Radio is seeking a creative, ambitious, and talented reporter to joinour award-winning, nationally recognized news team. This position is based atNCPRs headquarters in the St. Lawrence Valley, in Canton, New York. You willbe joining a hardworking news team working in a geographically diverse region,from rolling hills and farmland to the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands,to the Adirondack Mountains, the Tug Hill Plateau, and Akwesasne Mohawkterritory.

Headquartered atSt. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, NCPR is in a beautiful part of thecountry, including the Adirondack Mountains, the St. Lawrence River, LakeChamplain, Fort Drum Army base, Akwesasne Mohawk territory, and nearby urbanareas in Burlington, Vermont, and Ottawa and Montreal, Canada.
Our reporterscover critical issues facing our communities, including criminal justice andprison reform, policing, border and immigration, economic development, ruralhealth care, agriculture, climate change, native issues, and much more. Annualsalary is $62,353.20.
PrimaryResponsibilities include:
- Generalassignment reporter covering the St. Lawrence Valley.
- Produce newsstories for broadcast, digital, and social media platforms that serve themission of the news department to provide coverage of issues of regionalimportance.
- Enterprising andself-motivated, able to work on their own, and with a team.
- Establish amini-beat to dig deeper.
- Encouraged tofile national stories with NPR and other public media outlets.
- Work closelywith editors and fellow reporters to produce your best work.
- Collaborate withthe news team on special projects and investigative journalism.
- Will be trainedto be a backup for live on-air shifts as necessary.
MinimumQualifications
- At least 1 yearreporting experience, preferably in public radio
- Strongbackground in journalism for radio and digital platforms
- Excellentwriting skills for broadcast and web
- Ability to workvarious hours, including nights and weekends, depending on assignment
- Valid Driverslicense and vehicle
PreferredQualifications
- Ability torecord and gather high-quality audio in the field
- Ability to useaudio editing systems, such as Adobe Audition
- Knowledge of thehistory and culture of northern New York and the St. Lawrence Valley.
- Expertise inmulti-media skills, including photography, visual journalism, data-basedreporting, social media engagement, etc.
