GENERAL DUTIES
Serving in office titles such as Master Control Room Operator, Broadcast Engineer and Audio Engineer, employees in this class of positions perform technical work in a broadcasting operation and/or production environment. Duties include designing, installing, operating, monitoring and reporting, maintaining and/or modifying all types of broadcast equipment and related software.
There are two assignment levels in this class of positions. This specification describes typical duties of these assignments; related duties are performed as needed.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
CUNY TV is seeking a Master Control Operator to join its Engineering & Operations team in a full-time capacity. The Master Control Operator is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and ensuring the on-air integrity of CUNY TV and NYC Media broadcasts.
This position plays a critical role in sustaining uninterrupted broadcast operations and ensuring compliance with all FCC regulations and technical standards. The role requires strong technical expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to perform real-time troubleshooting in a fast-paced broadcast environment to guarantee seamless content delivery.
Key duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Monitor all live and recorded broadcasts for signal integrity, audio/video levels, and FCC compliance.
Operate broadcast automation systems to ensure accurate and timely playout of scheduled content.
Ingest and perform quality control (QC) of program files, promos, interstitials, and other media assets.
Review all content for closed captioning accuracy, censorship flags, and overall air-readiness.
Record satellite and/or IP-delivered programming as scheduled and ensure proper labeling and archival.
Coordinate with internal departments (Traffic, Production, Promotions) and external captioning vendors to ensure seamless broadcast operations.
Identify, escalate, and log all on-air irregularities, system alerts, and technical issues.
Maintain a clean, secure, and environmentally controlled Master Control Room.
Support Emergency Alert System (EAS) operations and broadcast system redundancy protocols.
Operate broadcast and production-related equipment in studio and field environments, including cameras, teleprompters, monitors, lighting, audio systems, videotape recorders, and editing systems.
NOTE:
This position requires 100% onsite presence 5 days a week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Assignment Level 1: Requires a high school diploma or GED, and 2 years of full-time, satisfactory directly related experience in a television broadcast environment, or
Associate Degree or 60 college credits, and 1 year of experience, or
Baccalaureate Degree.
Assignment Level 2: Requires a high school diploma or GED, and 6 years of experience, or
Associate Degree or 60 college credits, and 5 years of experience, or
Baccalaureate Degree and 4 years of experience, or
Masters Degree and 3 years of experience.
Important Notes: All qualifying experience must be from a television broadcast environment, full-time, or full-time equivalent, and in a position where the duties are directly related to those of Television Media Engineering and Operations Technician.
College education must be in a directly related field of study, from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four-year college or university.
Some positions in either Assignment Level may require a current, valid Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred:
Experience with broadcast automation systems such as Evertz, Imagine Communications, or comparable platforms.
Familiarity with public television or multi-channel broadcast operations.
Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced engineering and operations environment.
COMPENSATION
Level 1
New Hire Rate: $58,371
Incumbent rate: $65,957
*This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
