Broadcast Technician Jobs in Illinois

A Broadcast Technician, also known as a Broadcast Engineer, is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of equipment used in the broadcasting industry. This includes both studio equipment and transmission equipment. They ensure that the video, audio, and radio signals are broadcasted clearly and without interruption. They also keep track of logs to document the programs, commercials, and other broadcasted content. They troubleshoot and perform repairs on malfunctioning equipment and may also help in producing television shows, movies, and radio programs.

To be able to assume the roles and responsibilities, a Broadcast Technician should possess a strong knowledge of electrical systems and broadcasting equipment. They should be good problem-solvers, with the ability to quickly diagnose and fix issues that may affect broadcasting. They should have a good understanding of FCC regulations as well. While a degree in broadcasting technology or a related field is often required, relevant certifications can enhance a technician's qualifications. These may include Certified Broadcast Networking Technologist (CBNT), Certified Broadcast Technologist (CBT), and Certified Senior Broadcast Engineer (CSBE). Before becoming a Broadcast Technician, one may begin their career as an Audio and Video Equipment Technician, Radio Operator, or Sound Engineering Technician.
