Video Technician Jobs in Illinois

A Video Technician in the broadcasting industry plays a vital role in ensuring the high-quality production of televised content. They are responsible for operating and maintaining the equipment used for filming, recording, and editing. Video Technicians also troubleshoot any technical issues and perform routine maintenance to keep the equipment in prime condition. They work closely with the production team to understand their creative vision and provide technical support to bring it to life. Beyond filming, Video Technicians may also be responsible for encoding, compressing, and ensuring the proper transmission of the video signal.

Important skills for a Video Technician include a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and a solid understanding of broadcasting technology. They should be familiar with various types of video equipment including cameras, microphones, and editing software. A Video Technician should also have excellent communication skills to work effectively with the rest of the production team. In terms of certifications, having a degree in Broadcasting, Communications, or a related field is usually preferred. Additionally, the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) offers the Certified Video Engineer (CVE) credential, which can demonstrate a candidate's advanced knowledge and professionalism. Prior to becoming a Video Technician, individuals may have roles such as Camera Operator, Broadcast Assistant, or Video Editor to gain necessary experience in the industry.
