Position Overview:
Commonwealth Shakespeare Company is seeking Site Crew/Production Assistants for its Summer 2026 production of Free Shakespeare on the Common:A Midsummer Night's Dream directed by CSC Founding Artistic Director Steven Maler. The performance runs July 22 - August 9, 2026 outdoors on the historic Boston Common, Boston MA.
FLSA Status:
Temporary, part-time, non-exempt employment on a W-2.
Compensation:
This is a non-exempt W2 position (eligible for overtime) with an hourly rate of $18/hour (overtime rate is $27.00/hour). Anticipated total of 260 regular hours plus up to 70 overtime hours during load in, performances and load out (July through August).
Payments to be remitted in the week following work hours (typically on Thursday/Friday), based on the submission ofpleted timesheets.
Location: Boston, MA
Prep prior to load in to bepleted in Stoughton, Dorchester, and Northborough, MA
Rehearsals to take place at the BLO rehearsal space, Boston MA
Performances on the Boston Common, Boston MA
This is a local hire - no housing or transportation is provided.

Duties / Responsibilities:
The 2026 production ofA Midsummer Night's Dream celebrates our 30th year of sharing Free Shakespeare productions with Greater Boston audiences. The Site Ops Crew will work under the direction of the Site Ops Manager to facilitate load in and load out as well as day to day operations and maintenance of thepound.
Opening procedures of thepound
Unlocking gates, trailers, offices, and operational facilities
Detarping the set and stage
Filling up water fresh water tanks
Walkingpound and surrounding areas to identify areas in need of attention
Setting up and maintaining the audience areas in conjunction with the House Manager Team
Maintainingpound throughout run of show which may include setting up and tearing down tents throughout the site
Closing Procedures of thepound such as:
Removal of trash at end of day
Retarping set and stage
Locking gates and shutting down HVAC
Flagging out the site the day before the trailers arrive
Running power to trailers under the supervision of the Production Electrician
Setting up and maintaining offices, dressing rooms, and bathroom trailers
ing load out of the rehearsal hall and onto the Common
Completing storage runs to our storage facilities in Canton, MA
Assisting with scenic install as necessitated/possible
General maintenance tasks typically associated with outdoor/theatre venues like mowing, light carpentry, simple walkway lighting, light plumbing repair, trash removal, etc.
Installing and setting up backstage infrastructure (dressing rooms, office space, pathways, etc.)
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience with outdoor theatre a plus
On-site job requirements:
Attend load in, load out, and all technical rehearsals and performances
Ability to lift and carry 50lbs
Ability to navigate stairs and uneven terrain
Ability to navigate in variable high/low light settings in outdoor conditions
18+ years of age
Experience with and ability to meet all duties and responsibilities as listed above
Candidates with parallel experience such as general maintenance, technical theatre work, or production work for film/tv/music will be considered and should be encouraged to
